Being on maternity leave whilst trying to get a mortgage can make the process less straightforward but it's not impossible to get approved for a mortgage. In general, much will depend on the degree to which your normal salary is affected during this time.
Our job will be to present your case in the best possible light in terms of affordability. That means we'll need to prove your income before you went on maternity leave and supply evidence of expected employment and income for the future.
Your ability to acquire a mortgage will differ from lender to lender and our job will be to find the one that will offer the highest amount under the best possible conditions. Some will not take your full salary into account, whilst others will.
To support your application, we will ask you for the following documents:
-
The last payslip you received before maternity leave
-
A letter from your employer confirming your return date and terms under which you will continue working.
